TRIGGER WARNING: THIS VIDEO IS GRAPHIC

Video of the Police shooting that killed

Kajieme Powell  in St. Louis 08/19/2014

(I hate posting things like this but it needs to be seen!!)

*EDIT: THIS IS A VIDEO OF HIM BE SHOT AND KILLED

WARNING TO ALL!!!

This video is disturbing on so many levels, ever since I watched it this morning I can’t stop thinking about it. There could have been dozens of other ways the police could have handled this situation, but from the second they stepped out of the car there was only one they had in mind it seems. They could have used pepper spray, a taser, or gotten back in the car for all I care. There wasn’t even an effort to create any space between themselves and Kajieme. Even after he took his hand out of his pocket there was ample time for the police officers to readjust how they handled the situation in sight of the fact he did not have a gun. I thought police were supposed to be well trained to handle situations of all kinds, considering they are first to respond to any scene. They are supposed to show up and make scenes like this safer, yet within 30 or so seconds of them showing up it was instead escalated, resulting in a young life to be taken. There was clearly numerous people down the street as well, what of someone had been hit by a ricocheting bullet. To me this seems like the worst possible outcome that could have occurred. I don’t care what this man did prior to being shot it’s the police officer’s responsibility to make sure it is handled in the safest manner possible. They may have felt threatened when he approached them but how can that take precedence over whether someone lives or dies. In my opinion life shouldn’t be treated this carelessly. It wasn’t the police officers decision to make, it is up to our legal system to decide the repercussions of this mans actions.
